Turks and Caicos

Green Heron sits by the hotel pool during our two night stop in Providenciales

We are here in the Turks and Caicos Islands to assist the T&C National Trust with some of its conservation work.  More specifically we are here to look at their sites and the management of these for both wildlife and people.  It’s very early days as yet and we have only just moved in to our accommodation in the remote village of Bambarra on Middle Caicos.

It seems that the infrastructure of the Islands suffered badly in a 2008 hurricane and is struggling to rebuild from that point.  The ‘new’ causeway between North and Middle Caicos was destroyed and the temporary repairs leave a bit to be desired.   Thus tourism has taken a bit of a hit and facilities need a bit of investment and attention.  Over the next three months we will be looking at sites across Middle and North Caicos to start with and Providenciales in due course.
