Branton Nature Reserve

The hide overlooking the west pool at Branton Nature Reserve

A view over the site

Duncan was at an official opening of a new nature reserve in Northumberland.  The site at Branton, near Powburn, is a former sand and gravel quarry owned and managed by Cemex (formerly RMC).  The company has done a good job in restoring the site following quarrying and it is now maturing well as a nature reserve area, with paths and a hide overlooking the western pool.  There is also a small nature area attached to the local school providing a great little outdoor classroom.  A management plan is in place for the next 20 years or so and it will be interesting to see how it develops.
