Hand and Face

Northumberlandia, the face nears completion

I (Duncan) was back at Northumberlandia during last week.  The landform construction is almost complete but will soon have to stop for the winter.  It’s a little ahead of schedule as the autumn has been kind in terms of weather.  The face is now clearly a face and the hands are now finished, and recognisable as hands.  The greening up is going well though the south side, more exposed to the drying effects of the wind and sun (albeit in short supply recently), was always expected to take a little longer.  Each time I visit it’s another step forward and more striking.  There will undoubtedly be detractors as well as supporters but it would be hard not to be impressed by the scale and design of this new local landmark.

Please may I put a link to this on my blog – your previous pictures produced a great response?

They’ve made a lot of progress, and I look forward to seeing it ‘in the flesh’ next year.
