Snow showers

Today saw the first significant snowfall of the winter, adding to the wintry feel of an already icy week.  A site check at Northumberlandia revealed paths still covered in a thick layer of ice; the relic of frozen rain from last Friday night.  On the exposed slopes, where the sun and wind have reached, the ice has almost gone but behind the line of trees it still refuses to shift.  And then, it snowed hiding the ice under a deceptively soft covering of powder, beautiful but no less slippery.  Back in the shielding woodland, the northerly wind drove the snow into the trees sticking it to the trunks, giving a monochrome, sylvan scene.

Stunning, but I think I’ll wait until Spring!

Not too much down here. I was Nordic walking through snowy woodlands this morning, which was rather nice. (had the thermals on!)

I had my Nordic skis out on Wednesday night for the first time in 2 years! The snow has just about gone now. Duncan is back at Northumberlandia to check the paths first thing this morning. Sally
